Left over fruit from your fruit box? Or maybe the kids have been avoiding getting their 5 a day? Here’s how you can reduce waste, and use the leftovers to make tasty yet healthy treats.
You are doing all the right things and providing your family with fruit to fuel them during their day. But what happens when there is fruit left over that will go off?
We have put together some Summery hints and tips to help you make the most out of your office fruit boxes…
Fruit infused water
We all know that we are being encouraged to drink more water (about 2 litres a day) so what better way to use up some of the delicious and seasonal fruit than creating your very own fruit infused water. You can buy special bottles to make this even easier or just pop some chopped up fruit in to your everyday re-usable bottle.
Not only will this taste great, but it will help you to make the most of all the nutrients and vitamins in the fruit.
Smoothies
Whether you need a little pick me up in the afternoon or you are looking for a pre or post work out snack, smoothies are a great way to use up leftover fruit and make the most of all the fruity goodness.
Try mixing it up with frozen bananas to add a cool twist when the weather is hot. It almost tastes like ice-cream.
Eton mess
It’s all in the name and with this dessert, it really doesn’t matter if the fruit doesn’t look it’s best, as it will still taste great.
Experiment with different fruit, crumbled meringue, crushed biscuits and some crème fraiche to find a combination that works for you.
Fruit punch
With the longer, warmer evenings, why not use some of the fruit to spice up a punch to enjoy at a BBQ or chilling in the sun. It doesn’t even have to be alcoholic, but some of the fruits would definitely work well with rum if you fancied it.
With so many ways to get in your 5 a day, there is no reason to have any leftovers from your office or family fruit boxes.
